Egyptian activist arrested during Emergency landing in Luxor Airport
We Record had documented the kidnapping of Egyptian citizen (Hossam Menoufy Mahmoud Sallam) after the emergency landing of a Badr Airlines flight in Luxor.
Mr. Sallam was briefly stopped by the Sudanese security forces at Khartoum International airport on Wednesday January 12, 2022 on his way to Istanbul, Turkey, before he was allowed to board flight number J4690. During the flight, the pilot announced that the aircraft has to do emergency landing in Luxor Airport, Egypt, due to some technical glitches. Later in a statement by Badr airlines, they said that this was a false alarm. Other passengers also confirmed to We Record that they did not hear any alarm. Upon arrival to Luxor airport, authorities requested Mr. Sallam’s’ travel documents for review where his passport (number: A25198975) was confiscated and he was escorted to the office of the National Security Agency inside the airport. Mr Sallam could not be reached since then. He is originally from the Menoufia governorate and his last residence was in Giza. We Record condemns Mr. Sallam’s arrest and holds the Ministry of Interior and the National Security Agency accountable for his safety and call for his immediate release.
